QKD Summer School 2011

General Information:

This five-day program consisting of lectures and tutorials focuses on theoretical and experimental aspects of quantum communication, especially quantum cryptography. The objective of the summer school is twofold:

First it gives a well-structured series of lectures explaining the level of modern know-how in quantum cryptography.

Second it provides better understanding of the topic by using the lecture material in interactive tutorials.

The school will be held July 25 to 29, 2011 (full days inclusive), at the Institute for Quantum Computing, on the campus of the University of Waterloo.

There is no fee but participants will cover their own transporation and accomodation. Affordable accomodation has been reserved.

This summer school is a continuation of the Summer School Series established in 2008. Invited speakers are well known researchers world-wide. Several of them were part of the success of the Summer School in 2008.

Intended Audience:

The program on the theory and experimental implementations of quantum cryptography is aimed primarily at graduate students and young postdoctorial fellows. The lectures are geared to everyone who knows the basic ideas and concepts of quantum information and cryptography and who want to deepen their understanding of the cryptographic context, the theoretical underpinning and the experimental realizations and difficulties.

Confirmed Speakers:

Renato Renner, ETH Zurich

Richard Hughes, Los Alamos National Labs

Douglas Stinson, University of Waterloo

David Jao, University of Waterloo

Thomas Jennewein, Institute for Quantum Computing
